Punjab Police jobs are among the most searched government vacancies in the province, and also among the most misunderstood. This guide explains where real advertisements appear, what the process involves, and how to prepare.

The official source is punjabpolice.gov.pk, which publishes vacancies in its jobs section.

Where real Punjab Police jobs are advertised

Punjab Police publishes its vacancies on its own website, usually as a downloadable PDF advertisement, along with a jobs archive of past recruitment.

This matters because Punjab Police recruitment attracts more fake information than almost any other government job in Pakistan. Every recruitment cycle produces:

  • Websites announcing vacancies that were never advertised
  • WhatsApp forwards with invented dates
  • “Agents” offering to secure a place

Always confirm against the official advertisement. If it is not on punjabpolice.gov.pk or in a genuine newspaper notice, treat it as unconfirmed.

The posts recruited

Recruitment cycles have covered a range of posts, including:

  • Constable
  • Lady constable
  • Driver constable
  • Traffic assistant
  • Dolphin Squad members

Punjab also recruits into related enforcement bodies, such as the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority and constables for the Excise and Taxation department, which run their own recruitment with their own advertisements.

Physical tests are held at district police lines under a recruitment board.

Eligibility

Criteria are set in each advertisement and differ by post. As an example, published criteria for lady constable have included:

  • Minimum matriculation
  • Age 18 to 25 years
  • Height of 5 feet 2 inches

Requirements change between cycles, and men’s and women’s criteria differ. Read the current advertisement rather than trusting a figure you saw last year or on a forwarded message.

How recruitment actually runs

The part most candidates misunderstand: district police conduct the recruitment, both the examination and the physical test, when the Punjab government sanctions posts.

So the process happens in your district, not centrally in Lahore. Your District Police Office is the right place to confirm local dates and arrangements.

The stages typically run:

  1. Application against the advertisement, before the closing date
  2. Physical test at district police lines, including height and chest measurement and a running test
  3. Written examination
  4. Further stages including verification, and medical and character checks

Physical tests are conducted under a recruitment board with senior officers supervising.

Preparing for the physical test

The physical stage eliminates most candidates, and unlike the written test you cannot revise for it in a week.

  • Start running early. Months, not days. Build distance gradually.
  • Know the exact standard for your post from the advertisement.
  • Height is fixed, so check it honestly before you invest time in applying.
  • Bring original documents on the day.
  • Arrive early. Testing runs for hours and latecomers can be turned away.

Documents to prepare

  • CNIC
  • Domicile certificate — see our domicile guide if you do not have one
  • Matriculation certificate and any higher qualification
  • Recent photographs
  • A police character certificate where required — see our character certificate guide

Getting the domicile alone can take time, so start before the advertisement appears rather than after.

The written examination

Candidates who clear the physical stage sit a written examination. What it covers varies by post and cycle, but papers of this kind generally test:

  • General knowledge, including current affairs and Pakistan studies
  • Basic mathematics
  • English and Urdu
  • Islamiat
  • Basic reasoning

Preparation advice that actually helps:

  • Work through past papers rather than reading general guides
  • Practise under timed conditions, because running out of time is a common failure
  • Read a daily newspaper for current affairs, which is free and effective
  • Do not buy “guaranteed paper” claims. Papers are not for sale, and anyone selling one is defrauding you

After selection

Candidates who clear the written stage move to verification, and medical and character checks. This is where your documents are examined closely, so any mismatch between your form and your certificates matters.

Recruits then undergo training before posting. Treat the physical preparation you did for the test as a starting point rather than the finish line, because training is more demanding than the entry test.

Nobody can sell you a police job

This needs saying plainly, because the fraud around police recruitment is severe and expensive.

  • Selection is by test, physical standard and merit.
  • No agent, no relative of an officer, and no “recruitment consultant” can arrange a place.
  • The government does not ask for money to “reserve” a position.
  • Never hand over your original documents to an agent.
  • Never share an OTP.

If someone demands money, report it through the Pakistan Citizen’s Portal or the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment. You can also report at a Police Khidmat Markaz.

If you are not selected

Recruitment cycles are highly competitive and most candidates are not selected first time. Other routes worth knowing:

Physical fitness built for a police test transfers to other uniformed services, so the preparation is rarely wasted.
