A token tax check online Punjab vehicle owners can trust is done on ePay Punjab, the government’s official payment website and app at epay.punjab.gov.pk. The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department links to it from its own website, excise.punjab.gov.pk, under “Online Payment of Excise Dues”. Token tax is the motor vehicle tax on your car, bike or commercial vehicle. You can see what you owe and pay it from your phone.

Token tax check online Punjab in 3 steps

  1. Open epay.punjab.gov.pk or the ePay Punjab app. Sign in with your mobile number and password, or tap Register if you are new. Then choose Token Tax.
  2. Type your vehicle registration number. ePay looks up the vehicle and shows the tax due. If you only wanted to check, you can stop here.
  3. To pay, generate a PSID (payment slip ID) and pay it through your bank app, internet banking, an ATM, a bank counter or a mobile wallet. Keep the receipt.

The screens change from time to time, so follow the app’s own prompts.

On ePay Punjab you type your vehicle number, see the token tax due, and generate a PSID to pay.

What you need before you start

  • Your vehicle registration number, exactly as it appears on your registration book or card.
  • A mobile number to sign in to ePay Punjab. Payment messages come to this number.
  • A way to pay: a bank app, an ATM card, a bank account, or a mobile wallet.

You do not need to visit an office, and you do not need an agent.

How to pay token tax with a PSID

A PSID is a payment slip ID. It tells the bank which government payment you are making. Once ePay gives you the PSID, you can pay it in any of these ways:

  • your bank’s mobile banking app or internet banking
  • an ATM
  • over the counter at a bank branch
  • a mobile wallet such as Easypaisa or JazzCash

When the Punjab government launched ePay payments for traffic challans in January 2021, it listed these same channels. Bank lists change, so check the “where to pay” section on ePay Punjab for the current one.

After you pay, keep the receipt or SMS. Bank payments can take a little time to show against your vehicle.

Token tax rates in Punjab for 2026-27

As of 25 September 2026, the Excise department publishes these private vehicle rates on its Motor Vehicle Tax page. Rates can change with each budget, so always check that page and the amount on ePay before you pay.

VehicleToken tax 2026-27
MotorcycleRs 1,500 at the time of registration
Car up to 1000ccRs 20,000
Car 1001cc to 2000cc0.3% of the invoice price
Car 2001cc and above0.4% of the invoice price

The same table has columns for income tax (different for filers and non-filers) and professional tax. Your ePay screen shows the full amount due for your vehicle. Rates for commercial vehicles, taxis, rickshaws and buses are in separate tables on the same Excise page.

The department also lists an online tax calculator for motor vehicles on its website. When we tried the token tax calculator link on 25 September 2026, it did not open, so rely on ePay for your exact figure.

Lifetime token tax for bikes and small cars

For motorcycles and cars up to 1000cc, the tax is paid once at registration rather than every year. The Excise page calls this the life time token. It also explains what happens at transfer:

  • If a motorcycle is transferred within ten years of registration, Rs 1,500 is charged, with a 10% rebate for each financial year.
  • If a car up to 1000cc is transferred within ten years of registration, Rs 20,000 is charged, with a 10% rebate for each financial year.

Early payment rebate

The Excise page says you get a 10% rebate on annual token tax if you pay the whole year’s tax on or before 31 August of the financial year. For 2026-27, the department announced this offer until 31 August 2026. That date has passed. Check the Excise announcements page for any new offer.

Late payment

The department has announced crackdowns on token tax defaulters and unregistered vehicles. The Motor Vehicle Tax page we checked does not list a late payment fine for annual token tax, so we do not quote one here. If your tax is overdue, check the amount on ePay or call the helpline.

Check the vehicle record on MTMIS

ePay shows what you owe. To check the vehicle record itself, use the Excise department’s MTMIS portal at mtmis.excise.punjab.gov.pk. On 25 September 2026, its Vehicle Verification form asked for the vehicle number, the registration date and a captcha. The page shows example number formats such as LXZ 123, LXZ 0123 and LXZ-07-1111.

Our MTMIS Punjab vehicle verification guide explains the portal in detail. Only check a vehicle you own or are buying with the seller’s knowledge.

If you are buying a used vehicle

Unpaid token tax stays with the vehicle. Before you pay a seller:

  • Ask the seller to show the tax due on ePay, or the last token tax receipt.
  • Check the record on MTMIS and match it with the papers.
  • Check for unpaid camera challans with our e challan check guide.

The Excise department’s 2026 token tax notice also asks buyers to get the vehicle into their own name quickly and to complete biometric verification when buying from anyone.

For the transfer itself, including the fee and the lifetime token charged at transfer, see our vehicle transfer Punjab guide.

Other ways to pay

If you cannot pay online, our e-Khidmat Markaz guide lists token tax among the vehicle services at the centers. You can also go to your nearest Excise office. While you sort out your vehicle, check that your licence is valid too with our driving licence guide for Punjab.

The same ePay app also takes urban property tax: our property tax guide shows how to search by PIN and pay with a PSID.

Beware of fake token tax messages and agents

  • Do not pay through links sent by SMS or WhatsApp. Type epay.punjab.gov.pk yourself, or use the app from Google Play or the App Store.
  • Never share your OTP or bank PIN. No government office asks for them.
  • Checking is free. Nobody should charge you to “check” or “clear” token tax.
  • Match the amount. Before paying a PSID someone else gave you, generate your own on ePay and compare.

If someone asks for money to fix your token tax record, report it through the Pakistan Citizen’s Portal.

Contact the Excise department

For general questions, the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department lists 0800-08786 on its contact page. The same number is printed on its 2026 token tax notice.

GoPunjab is an independent website. We are not the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department or ePay Punjab, and we cannot check, calculate or collect token tax for you. Always finish on the official portal.
