Passport tracking Pakistan applicants need is handled by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P, often written DGIP), under the Ministry of Interior. As of October 2026, DGIP does not offer a public tracking form on its website. Instead, it sends status messages to your phone from SMS code 9988, and its helpline can tell you where your passport is. This guide shows each official route, the processing times DGIP lists, and what to do if your passport is late.
Passport tracking Pakistan in 3 steps
- Give a working mobile number (or email, if you are abroad) at the data entry counter when you apply. DGIP uses it to send your status.
- Watch for SMS from 9988. DGIP says it informs applicants about stages such as printing and shipment or delivery.
- Call the DGIP helpline on 051-111-344-777 with your token number ready if you have no message by the expected date.
These steps come from DGIP’s own passport process page and contact page. Tracking is free.

Passport tracking is not the same as NADRA tracking
Many people mix these up. Your CNIC, NICOP or B-Form is made by NADRA, and you track it with a NADRA tracking ID and PIN in the PakID app. See our NADRA tracking ID check guide for that.
Your passport is made by DGIP. Your key number is the token number printed on the token you get at the passport office. Keep that token safe. You need it to ask about your case and to collect your passport.
Every official way to track your passport
1. SMS from 9988
DGIP calls this its SMS based Passport Tracking Intimation System. Through code 9988, DGIP informs applicants about processing stages such as printing and shipment or delivery, on the mobile number given at data entry. DGIP also says an SMS or email is sent when your passport is dispatched from the production facility.
DGIP’s notes add that a dispatched passport “can be tracked through SMS Service / Helpline”. DGIP’s website does not explain what to type in that SMS. In 2013, Dawn reported that applicants could send their tracking number to 9988 and get an automatic reply.
2. Email Rabta for overseas applicants
If you applied at a Pakistani mission abroad, DGIP says its Email Rabta service informs you about your passport status, as long as you gave a correct email ID at data entry. Check your spam folder.
3. The DGIP helpline
Call 051-111-344-777 from Pakistan or +92-51-111-344-777 from abroad. As of October 2026, DGIP lists the helpline hours as Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
4. Email for application tracking
DGIP’s contact page lists opts@dgip.gov.pk for “Application Tracking”. Send your complete name, contact number, CNIC number, token number and contact address.
5. If you applied online
The online portal at onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk handles online renewals. For problems with an online application, DGIP says to email mrponline@dgip.gov.pk. For delivery problems, email onlinedelivery@dgip.gov.pk. Include your name, contact number, Online Tracking ID, CNIC number and mailing address. The Online Passport Section’s number is 0092-51-8482202.
What the stages mean
DGIP does not publish a full list of status messages. Its own process page names these stages:
| Stage | What it means |
|---|---|
| Go ahead | The Assistant Director has approved your case after the interview. You may leave the office. |
| Deferred | More documents or a security check are needed. DGIP says you are told by phone once the clearance report arrives. |
| Fee paid | Your passport is sent for printing once the fee payment is confirmed. |
| Printed | Your passport has been made at the production facility. |
| Dispatched | It has left production for your passport office, mission abroad or home address. |
Applicants under 18 also need their data form attested by a gazetted officer before a deferred token gets go ahead.
How long a passport takes
As of October 2026, DGIP’s ordinary passport page lists these times after your application is processed:
| Category | DGIP time |
|---|---|
| Fast Track (47 cities) | 2 working days |
| Urgent | 5 working days |
| Normal | 21 working days |
Courier time to remote areas and to missions abroad is not included. DGIP also says Fast Track is not available for e-Passport delivery. The fee depends on the category and number of pages. See our passport fee guide and DGIP’s own fee table, because fees can change.
If your passport is late
Work through these in order:
- Check the date on your token. You collect on the given date, not before.
- Think about deferral. If the Assistant Director asked for more documents, or your case went for security clearance, the clock waits for that.
- Allow shipment time. DGIP says passports leave production on time but may take extra days to reach your office or mission.
- Call or email DGIP. Use the helpline or opts@dgip.gov.pk with your token number.
- Complain if nothing moves. DGIP directs complaints to the Pakistan Citizen’s Portal. In the app, choose the Immigration & Passport category. Overseas Pakistanis can also email complaints.passport@interior.gov.pk.
Collecting your passport
DGIP’s steps say you visit the Passport Delivery counter with your original token on the given date. The passport is handed over only to you or a blood relative. DGIP says passports are not given to other people.
DGIP also runs a home delivery option with TCS. If you chose it, your passport comes to your door. If you did not, collect it from the office or mission where you applied.
Beware of agents and fake tracking sites
- Never type your CNIC and token number on unofficial websites that promise an online status. DGIP’s site is dgip.gov.pk.
- DGIP has ordered a crackdown on agents outside passport offices and asked citizens to help. Nobody can speed up your passport for cash.
- Never share an OTP or bank PIN. DGIP does not need them to tell you your status.
- Report anyone who asks for money on the Pakistan Citizen’s Portal.
If you also need a new CNIC first, read our NADRA CNIC online guide. Overseas readers can check our NICOP guide. Looking for work abroad or at home? Browse our Punjab government jobs list.
GoPunjab is an independent website. We are not DGIP, and we cannot see your passport application or its status. Always track through DGIP’s official SMS service, helpline or website.
