Getting a marriage certificate online in Punjab is commonly needed for visas, family registration, and legal matters. This guide explains how the process works at the Union Council and NADRA, the documents you need, the fee, and the difference between the two certificates.

A nikah is registered by the Nikah Registrar and recorded at your Union Council, and NADRA then issues the computerized certificate (the MRC) that visa offices and courts ask for. Knowing both steps saves a second trip.

How a marriage certificate online in Punjab works

In Punjab, a nikah is registered by the Nikah Registrar and recorded at your Union Council, which issues the marriage certificate. For a computerized certificate, NADRA issues the computerized Marriage Registration Certificate (MRC), built from the same registered record. You can begin at your Union Council or at an e-Khidmat Markaz. Official NADRA information is available at nadra.gov.pk.

A nikah is registered at the Union Council; NADRA issues the computerized MRC.

Union Council certificate vs NADRA MRC

The two documents work together:

  • Union Council marriage certificate — records the nikah locally and issues the certificate.
  • NADRA MRC — the computerized certificate accepted for visas, immigration, and legal cases, and often required abroad.

Both come from the same registered record. Because many uses ask specifically for the NADRA MRC, it is usually worth getting the computerized certificate.

Documents you need

Keep clear copies ready. You usually need:

  • The nikah nama (marriage contract)
  • Both husband’s and wife’s CNICs
  • Witnesses’ details
  • Proof of residence in the Union Council area

For late registration or a correction, extra documents or an affidavit may be required.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Ensure your nikah is registered with the Nikah Registrar / Union Council, or visit an e-Khidmat Markaz.
  2. Submit the nikah nama and both CNICs.
  3. Pay the official fee and collect your receipt / token.
  4. Get the Union Council certificate, and apply for the NADRA MRC for the computerized version.

The fee

Both certificates have official fees, paid through the proper channel. Amounts can change over time and may differ for normal versus late registration, so we do not quote a fixed figure — confirm the current fee at your Union Council or the official NADRA source, and keep your receipt.

Stay safe from fraud

  • Use only your Union Council, an official e-Khidmat Markaz, or the official NADRA portal.
  • Pay only the official fee, and always keep your receipt.
  • Never share your OTP or password, and avoid anyone who asks for extra money to “speed up” a certificate.

If a certificate is delayed and you get no response, you can raise a complaint on the Pakistan Citizen’s Portal.

A marriage certificate often goes with other family documents. See our guides on the birth certificate online in Punjab, the NADRA FRC, and the e-Khidmat Markaz.
