The laptop scheme merit list shows which students will get a free laptop under the CM Punjab Laptop Program. As of 19 September 2026, the Phase II list has not been published: the official portal still shows verification and selection as “Under Process”. This guide shows you how to check your status, what each status word means, and what to do while you wait. For eligibility and documents, read our main CM Punjab Laptop Scheme guide.
How to check your laptop scheme merit list status in 3 steps
- Open the official portal cmlaptophed.punjab.gov.pk and tap Sign In at the top of the page.
- Sign in to the account you made when you applied, using the same details and password.
- Open your application and read its status. Also check the email address you applied with, because the portal sends status updates by email.
You do not need to apply again to check, and checking is free.
Can you check the laptop merit list by CNIC only?
Many students search for a merit list check by CNIC (people also write it as “CM laptop list” or “laptop scheme result”). As of September 2026, the official portal’s home page has no separate box where you type only a CNIC to see a result. Your CNIC is part of your application, and your status is shown inside your own account.
The portal’s own FAQ says two things about the merit list:
- The merit list will be displayed on the official website.
- You can also sign in to your account to check your application status and whether you are on the merit list.
So when the Phase II list comes out, look for it on cmlaptophed.punjab.gov.pk itself. Other websites that ask for your CNIC to “check the laptop list” are not official, and they may collect your details.
Where Phase II stands in September 2026
On 19 September 2026, the portal’s counters showed:
| What | Phase I (2025) | Phase II (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Applications | 73,276 | 163,326 |
| Verified | 72,224 | Under Process |
| Selected students | 39,234 | Under Process |
So Phase II selection is not finished, and its merit list is not out yet. No official date for the list has been announced. Applications for this round closed on 20 April 2026, and its grievance round ended on 6 June 2026.
In June 2026, ProPakistani reported that the first 30,000 Phase II laptops had reached Punjab, and the Education Minister said the Chief Minister had approved more than 70,000 laptops for this year. Punjab’s 2026-27 budget set aside Rs 10 billion for 110,000 laptops, according to Dawn. These are news reports, not a promise about your own application.

What each status word means
The official portal uses these words on its home page and in its notices. The label inside your own account may be worded a little differently.
| Word on the portal | What it means |
|---|---|
| Under Process | Your application, or the whole phase, is still being checked. No decision yet. |
| Returned | Something in your application was wrong. It came back to you with an explanation, so you could fix it and resubmit. |
| Rejected | Your application was not accepted, for example after it was returned and still had problems. |
| Grievance | An appeal round for rejected candidates who still believe they are eligible. For Phase II it ran from 1 to 6 June 2026. |
| Verified | Your details and documents were checked. This alone does not mean you are selected. |
| Selected | You are on the merit list for a laptop. |
How merit is decided
The official portal says laptops are awarded on merit, based on how many laptops are available, and that selection is competitive. A laptop is not guaranteed for every applicant, even an eligible one.
To be considered at all in Phase II, you needed minimum Intermediate marks: 65% for BS and BS Nursing, 75% for DVM and 80% for MBBS and BDS (55% for non-Muslim BS students, and any marks for blind students). You also needed a Punjab domicile and no laptop from an earlier scheme. Our main laptop scheme guide has the full rules.
The portal does not say exactly how eligible applicants are then ranked, for example by marks, institution or district.
The Phase I counters give an idea of the competition: 39,234 of 73,276 applicants were selected, which is a little over half.
How it worked in the last round
In Phase I (2025), laptop distribution began with a ceremony at UET Lahore at the end of April 2025. More ceremonies followed in other divisions, including Faisalabad, Sargodha and Layyah, and at the University of Chakwal in October 2025. News reports sometimes called these ceremonies “Phase II”, but that is not the portal’s Phase II round.
In April 2025, ProPakistani reported that students had to complete NADRA biometric verification before receiving a laptop. NADRA provided this at designated institutions, and the Higher Education Department covered the cost.
If your status is stuck, missing or not selected
- Still “Under Process”. This is normal in September 2026, because all of Phase II is still under process. Check your email and the portal now and then, not daily.
- You cannot sign in, or your record is not found. Use the same details you applied with. If your email was wrong, the portal asks you to visit the scheme’s focal person at your college or university to correct it. You can also call or email the scheme (see Contact below).
- Your application was Returned. For Phase II, the last date to resubmit was 31 May 2026, and you had only one chance. That window is closed.
- Your application was Rejected. The Phase II grievance round ran from 1 to 6 June 2026 and is now closed.
- You were not selected. Laptops are limited, so many eligible students miss out, and nobody can add you later for money. Watch the official portal for any new round, and look at other support such as the Honhaar Scholarship and the PEEF Scholarship.
As of September 2026, we found no official announcement of a Phase III. Only the official portal can open a new round.
Not the same as the PM Youth Laptop Scheme
The Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme is a separate federal program run by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), with its own merit lists. This guide covers only the CM Punjab Laptop Program. For the PM scheme, ask the focal person at your university or follow HEC’s announcements.
Checking is free: stay safe from fraud
- Checking your status on cmlaptophed.punjab.gov.pk is free. There was no application fee either.
- Nobody can add your name to the merit list for money. Selection is on merit and depends on how many laptops there are.
- Never share an OTP or your portal password, even with someone who says they are from HED or your college.
- Ignore messages about “Phase III registration” or a “laptop list by CNIC” that link to another website.
If someone asks you for money, report it through the Pakistan Citizen’s Portal.
