The EOBI pension is a monthly old-age pension for people who worked in registered private-sector jobs in Pakistan. This guide explains who qualifies, how much it pays, how to check your EOBI record with your CNIC, and how to claim.

It is run by the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI), a federal body under the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. The free helpline is 08000-3624.

What the EOBI pension is

EOBI was set up under the EOB Act 1976 to give workers compulsory social insurance. It runs on monthly contributions, not government money:

  • Your employer pays 5% of the minimum wage
  • You pay 1% of the minimum wage

That is 6% in total, based on the government-set minimum wage, not your full salary.

Who is covered. EOBI’s website says that since 1 July 2008, the law applies to industrial and commercial establishments with 5 or more employees, such as factories, shops, private schools and security companies. Smaller businesses can join by choice.

Not covered: government servants, the armed forces, police, banks, and the employer’s own family.

Do I qualify? A quick checklist

For the full EOBI old-age pension, all of these must be true:

  • You worked for an employer registered with EOBI
  • Contributions were paid for at least 15 years
  • You are 60 or older (men) or 55 or older (women)

With 2 to under 15 years, you get a one-time old-age grant instead.

Check your EOBI record with your CNIC long before you retire, while missing years are still easy to fix.

Old-age grantRetired worker without 15 years2 to under 15 years of contributions, paid once
Invalidity pensionWorker permanently disabled, not by a work injury15 years, or 5 years with 3 in the last 5
Survivors’ pensionSpouse, then minor children, then parents36 months of insured work (5 years if the worker had left), or already a pensioner

The old-age grant is one month’s average wage for each year of contributions. The invalidity pension needs a medical board certificate every six months. A widow keeps her survivors’ pension even if she remarries.

How much is the EOBI pension amount?

As of September 2026, the minimum EOBI pension is Rs 11,500 a month. The federal cabinet raised it from Rs 10,000 with effect from 1 January 2025, and increased formula-based pensions by 15%.

Above the minimum, EOBI uses this formula:

(Average monthly wage × years of insured work) ÷ 50

The wage is the one your contributions were based on in the last 12 months. In simple words, each year of contributions adds 2% of that wage. If the formula gives less than the minimum, you get the minimum.

In August 2026, EOBI said any further increase depends on the fund’s finances and an actuarial review, as the law requires. Confirm the current amount on the helpline.

EOBI pension check: your registration and contributions online

Check your record long before you retire, while you still have your job papers.

  1. Open EOBI’s Individual Information page.
  2. Choose Insured Person/Employee Details.
  3. Enter your EOBI number or your CNIC number.
  4. Check every employer and date.

Already applied? Use Pension Claim Status on the same page, with your claim form number or CNIC.

Good to know:

  • EOBI’s website opens on http, not https. Type eobi.gov.pk carefully and avoid look-alike sites.
  • The page says individual queries work Monday to Friday, 9 am to 7 pm.

If your employer did not register you

Your employer must register the business within 30 days of the law applying and send in your details. EOBI then gives you a registration card (PI-03).

If that did not happen:

  • The law lets you register yourself. Take proof of employment to your nearest EOBI office and apply on Form PE-02.
  • Useful proof includes an appointment letter, salary slips, a service book, or a settlement letter.
  • EOBI can inspect employer records and issue notices to recover unpaid contributions.
  • Your card is yours. When you change jobs, give the same number to your new employer.

If the regional office does not help, complain to EOBI’s head office, the Pakistan Citizen’s Portal, or the Federal Ombudsman at mohtasib.gov.pk.

How to claim your EOBI pension, step by step

  1. Get the claim form. Download the Old-Age Pension Form from eobi.gov.pk or collect it from a regional office.
  2. Get your employer’s papers. A service certificate, an age certificate, a salary statement for the last 12 months, and a certificate that no claim was made before. If the business has closed, bring your own proof of employment.
  3. Attach your documents. Attested copies of your CNIC and your spouse’s CNIC, recent attested photographs, and your original PI-03 card.
  4. Submit at the regional office and keep the receipt.
  5. Wait for your pension card. EOBI says it issues the card within 30 days once the paperwork is complete. The pension is then paid monthly through your chosen bank branch.

Do not wait too long. Apply within 12 months of becoming eligible. A late claim can be accepted for a good reason, but EOBI pays arrears for 6 months at most.

In Punjab, EOBI has regional offices in cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha and Bahawalpur. See the full office list.

For a widow or widower, use the Survivor Pension Form. You also need the death certificate, Nikah Nama, a NADRA Family Registration Certificate, and B-Forms for children under 18.

Keeping your pension running

  • Tell your EOBI office if you change your address or bank branch
  • If you lose your pension card, inform the office in writing and report it to the police
  • Your pension is paused while you live abroad, and the arrears are paid when you return

As of September 2026, EOBI is among the bodies joining NADRA’s new face-verification system for pensioners. Complete any proof-of-life check EOBI asks for, through official channels only.

If you never had a registered job, EOBI cannot help. Punjab’s Ba-Himmat Buzurg pension was set up for poor elderly people, but as of September 2026 its status is unclear, so check with PSPA on 1221 whether new names are being added.

Registration is free

  • EOBI says there is no fee for registration or any pension form
  • No EOBI officer may take money from you or your employer
  • No agent can add your name or speed up your claim
  • Never share an OTP, even with someone claiming to be from EOBI or a bank

If anyone asks for money, tell the head of your EOBI office, or report it through the Pakistan Citizen’s Portal.
